The Circuit Rider:
- Provides outreach and technical assistance to Essex County Communities struggling with all smart growth-related issues. This includes attending local board meetings to present information, reviewing zoning bylaws and providing guidance for their improvement, connecting local board members to state resources, etc.
- Researches and develops models and tools to address smart growth issues, and makes them available to all communities within the County.
- Provides assistance with implementing smart growth tools, from helping present information at town meeting to providing strategies for successful public education about tools municipalities wish to adopt.
- Helps educate stakeholders in the region about smart growth issues and strategies through the Forum’s workshops, conferences, and publications.
- Fosters communication and idea exchange among communities in the county struggling with similar smart growth challenges.
The Circuit Rider has contacts in all 34 cities and towns in Essex County, and has current knowledge of successful smart growth tools adopted by these towns. Thus, she is able to connect municipalities interested in adopting a new bylaw with a community that has successfully done so.
